House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans have been traveling the country to promote House Republicans’ Commitment to America. They are leading to lower the cost of living, improve people’s quality of life, boost our energy security, and reduce emissions with solutions that restore America’s energy dominance.
AN ECONOMY THAT’S STRONG
Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) recently visited Nevada’s Albemarle’s Silver Peak lithium site, Ioneer’s Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project, and the Hoover Dam.
“As the United States modernizes the electric grid and incorporates new technologies into our energy production, it is critical that these developments are happening domestically,” Rep. Latta said. “We are living during uncertain times where we could face economic and national security challenges if we become too dependent on foreign sources of energy and critical minerals. The United States must embrace an all-of-the-above energy strategy so that we can become North American energy independent.”
The Albemarle Silver Peak is North America’s only lithium producing site, which is critical to the production of electric vehicle batteries and crucial energy storage technology.
Rep. Latta also visited Ioneer’s Rhyolite Ridge lithium-boron project. Because of the permitting process with the Bureau of Land Management, the project is currently not operational. If the permits are greenlit, the mine will be able to produce about 24,000 tons of lithium per year and about 192,000 tons of boric acid per year — both of which are used in batteries to power cell phones and electric vehicles.
While in Nevada, Rep. Latta stopped by Hoover Dam, one of America’s most famous sources of hydropower. Hydropower provides a reliable and affordable source of carbon-free electricity.
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) led a letter in October signed by 129 House Republicans to President Biden demanding an immediate end to his administration’s war on American energy.
“Every day that passes under President Biden’s war on American energy is another day Louisiana families struggle to pay their electricity bills and fill their tanks,” Rep. Scalise said. “President Biden has unfortunately carried out his campaign pledge to shut down American oil and gas production, leaving families struggling to keep up with skyrocketing energy costs.”
“We’ve seen the future of Biden and Pelosi’s reckless Green New Deal policies play out in Europe with mushrooming energy costs, and allowing the same devastating fate for American families would be unconscionable,” Rep. Scalise continued. “Instead of begging OPEC and Russia to increase oil production, I have called on President Biden to look to places like offshore Louisiana and Port Fourchon in my district so we can unleash American energy, create good jobs and lower costs for hard-working families.”
Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) joined Senator John Hoeven (R-ND), Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Lieutenant Governor Brent Sanford (R-ND), and ND Petroleum Council President Ron Ness last month for a discussion about America’s energy policies and the role North Dakota plays in our energy security.
“Washington, D.C. doesn’t make anything. They need the things we make in North Dakota. That is the bottom line,” Rep. Armstrong said. “We will work on solutions to the issues facing the country, but not at the expense of the way of life we enjoy in North Dakota.”
While filling up his car in Indiana, Rep. Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-IN) called out the Biden administration’s rush-to-green agenda which is forcing families to pay more at the pump.
“I’m pumping some gas in my car today and it’s $4.09 per gallon. Look, we need to flip the script here and get back to more energy independence,” Rep. Bucshon said. “My constituents and people across the country can’t continue to afford these high energy prices. The Biden administration needs to allow our oil and natural gas producers to get back in business and quit relying on foreign sources of oil.”
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) joined Fox Business’ Stuart Varney to discuss common sense Republican solutions to the Democrats’ far-left energy and economic policies, which have led to out-of-control inflation and rising energy prices for Americans.
“We need to help our energy sector so that they’re drilling more and producing more,” Rep. Crenshaw said. “We need to help our supply chains and help at our ports as well and we need to make sure Americans have the skills they need that the labor market actually wants.”
Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH) condemned the Democrats’ war on American energy and explained how Republicans are working to restore American energy independence.
“Just two years ago, America was energy independent, the largest energy producer in the world, and gas was affordable. One party Democrat rule in Washington, D.C. ended all that with their unprecedented war on American energy,” Rep. Johnson said. “Joe Biden and House Democrats’ war on American energy has caused the price of gasoline, natural gas, and electricity to skyrocket for hard-working Americans, jeopardized our national security, and made us reliant on foreign adversaries for energy.
“When Republicans earn back the House this November, we’ll maximize the production of clean, reliable American-made energy and cut the permitting process time in half to reduce reliance on foreign countries, prevent rolling blackouts, and lower the cost of gas and electricity. This is our Commitment to America.”
Rep. Johnson expanded on these Republican energy solutions in a recent op-ed for the Hill, where he said the world needs America to step up and be the global energy leader again.
“Global elites claim we can rapidly transition to a wind and solar-powered economy, while only temporarily needing fossil fuels. But global demand for reliable and affordable energy is increasing, whether it be Europeans trying to free themselves from the boot of Putin or the billions of people in developing countries who want to industrialize to improve their standard of living.
“America has the resources to meet this demand now and into the future, but we need the expanded infrastructure to do it. We need more pipeline capacity and more LNG export terminals — and those things take long-term planning.”
“Now is the time for choosing. The world needs energy — American energy. This is a historic opportunity for our leaders to come back to reality, and realize that if we ruin our economy by pursuing these arbitrary ‘green’ goals to achieve this ‘energy transition’ by shutting down our affordable and reliable energy resources, the Russians, Iranians, Venezuelans, and other resource-rich regimes will fill the void — and they don’t like America.”
Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) spoke with Spectrum News 1 Kentucky about Republicans’ plans if they take back the House.
“We’re vulnerable because we used to be energy independent. We’re not now,” Rep. Guthrie said. “We want to go to energy independence which lowers the price of energy, which lowers the price of everything.”
