Arun Venkataraman, assistant secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and director general of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, just returned from a trade mission to Israel and Bahrain where he promoted American aerospace and defense firms looking for business opportunities.

Venkataraman also talked about new opportunities for increased trade and investment across the region made possible by the Abraham Accords, according to a Nov. 15 U.S. Department of Commerce news release.

“The United States is a global leader in the aerospace and defense sectors, which together accounted for over $100 billion dollars in exports in 2021 alone, directly supporting 480 thousand jobs nationwide,” Venkataraman said, according to the release.

He also traveled to the United Arab Emirates as part of the visit to meet with business leaders and government representatives there, the release reported.

Venkataraman said the U.S. aerospace and defense industries work at the cutting edge of technological innovation and solutions, according to the release. The U.S. affirmed its commitment through this trade mission “to developing new opportunities for increased bilateral trade and investment that further deepen our strategic relationships to promote peace and stability across the region,” he said.

Ten small and medium-sized American businesses representing a variety of aerospace and defense technologies traveled to Israel and Bahrain between Nov. 6 and 10, under the direction of Venkataraman, to highlight the U.S. government's support for these two crucial industries, the release reported.
