Scranton, PA - Today, United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Sekete Lerotholi, a 44-year old Brooklyn man with no fixed address.
On July 18, 2018, the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department obtained an arrest warrant charging Lerotholi with Attempt - Rape of a Child and lesser included offenses. Attempts to find him in the Poconos were unsuccessful and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend him.
On Oct. 21, 2019 at about 7:45 a.m., the fugitive investigation led members of the task force to a building in the 1800 block of Utica Avenue, Brooklyn, New York - where Lerotholi was arrested without incident. Lerotholi was turned over to the New York Police Department to await extradition to Pennsylvania.
U.S. Marshal Martin Pane said, “The U.S. Marshals Service recognizes the importance of bringing those charged with serious sex crimes to justice as quickly as possible. We give these type of cases our utmost attention. It is my hope that the victim and family members will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody."
The USMS Fugitive Task Force is comprised of 20 state and local police agencies, including the Pennsylvania State Police and the Scranton Police Department - both of whom participated in this investigation.
