Memphis, TN - Daruis Withers was captured today in the New Orleans metropolitan area by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Warrants were issued for the arrest of Darius Withers by Shelby County. Withers was wanted for First Degree Murder, three charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, three charges of Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Dangerous Felony and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun. Withers was wanted for the October 7 shooting death of Victoria Leisure at the 3400 block of Lamphier Avenue in Memphis TN. On October 11 the Marshals Task Force office in Memphis adopted the case.
Investigators with the Task Force office in New Orleans, working with investigators in Memphis, were able to track the fugitive to the 1100 block of Manhattan in Harvey, LA.
The fugitive was taken into custody without incident, and transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center (LA).
The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force with divisions in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The Western Tennessee Division of the GCRFTF has offices in Memphis and Jackson, and its membership is primarily composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies, Memphis Police Officers, Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Jackson Police Officers, BATF, and the Tennessee Department of Corrections Special Agents. The primary mission of the Task Force is to arrest violent offenders and sexual predators.
