The way is clear to begin work on new passenger terminals at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago.

Buttigieg joined with local, state and federal officials at O'Hare Nov. 21 to announce the Federal Aviation Administration completed an environmental review on Chicago Department of Aviation projects, according to a Nov. 21 DOT news release.

"Chicago's transportation infrastructure is what makes this city an economic powerhouse of global importance," Buttigieg said in a DOT news release. "Now, as we prepare to break ground on O'Hare's newest terminal, Chicago and this entire region will be positioned to grow and create good-paying jobs through the benefits of first-rate infrastructure, beginning with the construction project itself."

Projects analyzed in the review include new terminals, hotels, airfield and taxiway improvements, support facilities and runway adjustments to allow for simultaneous arrivals on multiple runways, the release reported.

"The FAA concluded that proposed construction projects and changes to air traffic procedures will not significantly affect any environmental resources, including noise, air quality, water resources and historic sites," according to the release.

Buttigieg also met with Chicago Southside students studying to become aviation maintenance technicians, the release reported.

Three air traffic control towers at O’Hare are operated by the FAA and manage more than 700,000 annual arrivals and departures on the airport's eight runways, according to the release.
