Burlington, VT - The U.S. Marshals Service arrested a fugitive wanted by the Vermont Department of Correction and the Burlington Police Department.
Khalif Jones, 23 of Burlington, VT, was wanted by the Burlington Police Department for failing to appear to face drug trafficking charges stemming from a June, 2019 arrest. Jones was also wanted by the Vermont Department of Corrections for escape from furlough, when he failed to abide by his release conditions stemming from a conviction for aggravated assault with a weapon.
On July 22, 2019 the Burlington Police Department sought the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service in locating and arresting Jones, who was believed to have fled the state. During the fugitive investigation, it was discovered that Jones was actively evading arrest from law enforcement and had traveled to New York, California and Vermont.
Jones, who goes by the street name “Leaf Lzz" has felony convictions for aggravated assault with a weapon and assault and robbery. According to the New York City Police Department, Jones is also associated with the “CRIPS", a criminal gang in the New York City area.
On Dec. 16, 2019 the U.S. Marshals identified Jones leaving the Motel 6 in Colchester where he was taken into custody. Jones was transported to the Vermont Superior Court to be arraigned on the Burlington Police Department warrant. Bail was set at $10,000.00 and Jones was lodged with the Vermont Department of Corrections on the escape warrant.
Jones’ arrest highlights the great collaboration between the U.S. Marshals Service and the Burlington Police Department to get those who bring drugs into our communities off the streets.
