Lowey Applauds Senate Passage of Bicameral, Bipartisan Disaster Relief Package

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of HCA on May 23, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY-17) released the following statement after the Senate passed $19.1 billion bipartisan, comprehensive disaster relief legislation:

“I am pleased that President Trump and the Republicans have finally relented and agreed to deliver relief to all Americans struck by recent disasters. This $19.1 billion bill will help communities rebuild, assist farmers and rural communities, provide critical health care, nutritional assistance, and social services for disaster victims, and repair damaged federal facilities.

“In contrast to President Trump’s cruel attempts to block funding for our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico, this bill provides approximately $1.4 billion in assistance for Puerto Rico. This funding will replenish Puerto Rico’s nutrition assistance program, fund important disaster recovery projects, and allow critical infrastructure like hospitals and schools to be built back better."

A summary of the bicameral, bipartisan disaster relief package is available.
