House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul released the following statement in response to reports that Germany will finally announce its decision to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
“While I’m glad reportedly the German government will finally agree to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, there is no excuse for the months-long delay. Germany’s delay cost Ukrainian lives and prolonged Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression. It is extremely disappointing that Germany set a prerequisite for the U.S. to transfer M1 Abrams tanks to unlock this outrageously overdue decision when instead it should step up and take the lead within Europe on supporting Ukraine.”
