The United States announced a $300 million security assistance package for Ukraine in the ongoing fight against Russia's aggression.
The package includes ammunition and field equipment essential for Ukraine's defense, according to a May 3 news release.
"Today, the United States announced critical new support for Ukraine as it continues to bravely defend its people, its territorial integrity and its independence against Russia’s aggression. We stand #UnitedWithUkraine," Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a May 3 Twitter post.
Blinken condemned Russia's ongoing aggression while emphasizing the U.S.' support of Ukraine, according to the release.
"This latest package will help Ukraine continue to bravely defend itself in the face of Russia’s brutal, unprovoked and unjustified war," Blinken said in the release. "Russia could end its war today. Until Russia does, the United States and our allies and partners will stand united with Ukraine, for as long as it takes."
The Department of Defense also announced the approval of the new security assistance package for Ukraine, valued at $300 million, according to a news release. The package includes ammunition for rocket systems, howitzers, artillery, tanks, anti-tank weapons, small arms and ammunition, trucks and trailers for heavy equipment transportation, as well as spare parts and other equipment.
This latest assistance package is the 37th drawdown of DOD equipment for Ukraine since August 2021, the DOD release reported. It demonstrates "the Biden administration's pledge of enduring support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression."
Additionally, the U.S. led 11 meetings of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which includes more than 50 countries assisting in the defense of Ukraine, the DOD release said. The latest meeting was held at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
"Our common efforts have made a huge difference to Ukraine's defenders on the battlefield," Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III said during his remarks at the meeting, according to the DOD release. "And they underscore just how badly the Kremlin miscalculated."
