The 3D artist behind the breathtaking digital artwork titled "The Hidden Temple of Itzamná" which depicts a Mayan ruins scene found inspiration while playing a game.

The artist named Milan Dey was recently featured "In the NVIDIA Studio."

“One evening, I was playing an adventure game and wanted to replicate the scene," Dey told blogger Gerardo Delgado. "But I wanted my version to have a heavy Mayan influence.”

According to the article, Dey has found inspiration for his work in a number of things including games, movies, comic books and popular culture.

The images in his creation might be familiar especially if you've watched any of the Indiana Jones movies. No detail was too small for Dey, who drew up the intricate ancient buildings and rocks that look like they've been there for hundreds of years.

According to Delgado, Dey wanted to make sure the wild, damp greens were properly captured to remind people that Mother Nature is "the best." The scene started with an elaborate establishing shot to set the stage. Dey walked him through his creative process, which included a combination of perseverance and technological know-how. “Art is the expression of human beings,” Dey told Delgado. “It demands understanding and attention."

He started by gathering research materials. The artist spent an afternoon taking a large number of images and gameplay walkthrough videos for this scene. The following day was spent gathering images and organizing work related to ruins on Artstation and Adobe Behance. The Epic Games store, which has a big selection of resources for Unreal Engine creators, was Milan's next stop. “It crossed my mind that Aztec and Inca cultures are a great choice for a ruins environment,” Dey told Delgado. “Tropical settings have a variety of vegetation, whereas caves are deep enough to create their own biology and ecosystem.”
