HUD earns award acknowledging the agency's enterprise-wide commitment
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Office of Public Housing, Energy Branch, has been recognized for its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). On September 20, 2023, HUD's Energy Director, Dr. Charles Marshall, accepted the Smart Energy Decisions' 2023 DEI Award on behalf of the department at the Net Zero Forum Fall event in Phoenix, Arizona.
The award was given by Smart Energy Decisions, the first online platform focused exclusively on catering to the information needs of large power consumers. The platform provides news, insights, research, and opinion pieces aimed at helping its community make informed decisions regarding energy usage and policies. Smart Energy Decisions accepted nominations for DEI projects and industry influencers from various sectors, including commercial, industrial, institutional, and government organizations.
HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, "HUD is honored to receive the Smart Energy Decisions' 2023 DEI Impact Award for our efforts in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in clean energy. We have strived to create an agency that reflects the diverse world we inhabit."
The award ceremony also recognized other organizations and individuals for their contributions to DEI in clean energy. Some notable winners included the Boston Medical Center's Brockton Behavioral Health Center, Google's Energy & Global Infrastructure team, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham's UAB Sustainability.
NRG, a leading energy company, sponsored the DEI Impact Awards. Jennifer Brunelle, Vice President of Diversity and Development at NRG, commended the organizations that have shown remarkable commitment to DEI, stating, "We are delighted to sponsor Smart Energy Decisions' DEI Impact Awards."
HUD's recognition for its commitment to DEI reflects the agency's ongoing efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. Secretary Marcia L. Fudge emphasized that these endeavors serve as the bedrock of the agency and will continue to evolve and expand.
Through its Energy Branch, HUD aims to promote clean energy practices that align with its commitment to DEI. The award acknowledges the agency's dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment within the clean energy sector.
