A document posted by C/O Futures discusses the potential for AI to be used by terrorist organizations. Concern has been raised over chat bots facilitating criminal activity.
According to "The Terrorism Potentials of ChatGPT & Related Generative AI Models," authored by Dr. Robert Bunker and Keaton Bunker, the technological advancement seen in emerging AI softwares such as ChatGPT has raised concern over its potential negative effects, specifically in regards to applications of terrorism, a scenario that grows especially worrying when considering the possibility that these AI softwares can be “jail broken” to disable any existing “ethical inhibitors.”
The document cites an article from Newsweek that claims that AI technology in the hands of terrorist organizations could assist in criminal activity. Reportedly, while some AI languages have strict restrictions on what information they will provide, others are not as safe. The document references a language called “Perplexity Ask”, which reportedly shares information on highly criminal activity, including instructions on beheading and “making ricin”. Chat GPT, on the other hand, will refrain from doing so and reportedly even rejects prompts that ask the same things in indirect ways.
