SRI and Lisa Health study probes impacts of menopause on women in the workforce

SRI and Lisa Health have published the outcomes of a survey investigating the challenges and needs of menopausal women in the workforce. The results suggest that employers could enhance their efforts to address this occasionally neglected facet of workplace inclusivity.

According to a joint press release, the study involved a survey of 351 working women aged between 40 and 65. It found that 74% of menopausal women in the workforce experience moderate to severe symptoms that impact their daily work lives. Nearly half (54%) of respondents said they are dealing with child or aging parent demands in addition to their work responsibilities. Furthermore, more than half (51%) expressed concern that others perceive them as less capable due to their symptoms.

The press release further indicates that menopausal symptoms often result in high levels of exhaustion, thereby reducing efficiency. These symptoms also correlate with intentions to leave the workplace.

The study revealed a significant gap between workplace measures such as menopause policies, managerial training, and digital solutions, and implementing these measures, according to the press release. De Zambotti said in the press release, "The results underscore an urgent need for increased awareness and structural changes to better support menopausal women in the workforce. Addressing these challenges enhances gender equity and contributes to the overall well-being of employees."

Baker said in the press release, "Empowering menopausal women in the workplace is essential for their career progression and overall job satisfaction. Employers are becoming more aware of the unique challenges faced by this demographic and are taking proactive steps to address them."
