CFTC Commissioner Kristin N. Johnson has announced the Market Risk Advisory Committee (MRAC) will convene a public meeting on Tuesday, April 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (EDT) at the CFTC's Washington, D.C. headquarters.

Commissioner Johnson expressed, "At each meeting over the last two years, the MRAC has advanced a series of recommendations and reports on several of the most critical issues facing our markets. Consistent with the MRAC’s mission, the diverse stakeholders on the MRAC Subcommittees have considered critical issues, highlighted systemic risk concerns, and advanced an agenda that examines how best to mitigate and minimize these risks, offering pragmatic solutions that support the resilience of derivatives markets and the integrity and stability of our markets."

During the upcoming meeting, the MRAC will present formal recommendations, reports, and presentations that align with the Commission's efforts to enhance the stability of the U.S. financial system by addressing a range of timely and diverse issues. These include topics such as managing the resilience, recovery, or wind down of central counterparties, concentration risk in intermediation, U.S. treasury cash-futures basis trade and risk-management considerations, integration of artificial intelligence in markets, efforts to manage climate-related market risks, and updates on various workstreams.

The meeting will take place either in person at the CFTC Headquarters or virtually. Members of the public can join the live feed by phone, with detailed instructions provided for access. Additionally, attendees can submit public comments in connection with the meeting, with instructions on how to do so available on CFTC.gov.

The MRAC serves as an advisory body to the Commission on matters related to evolving market structures and risk movement across various entities within the financial markets. It focuses on systemic issues that could impact the stability of derivatives markets and other financial sectors, offering recommendations to improve market structure and mitigate risk.

The CFTC oversees five active Advisory Committees, including the MRAC, which were established to provide guidance and suggestions to the Commission on regulatory and market issues affecting U.S. market integrity and competitiveness. These committees play a crucial role in fostering communication between the Commission, market participants, regulators, and academics, providing valuable insights to enhance the functioning of the markets.
