Since taking office, the Biden-Harris Administration has reported the creation of nearly 16 million jobs, with unemployment among Latinos reaching a record low. Latino entrepreneurs have been starting new businesses at an unprecedented rate in over 25 years. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Secretary Raimondo and Deputy Secretary Graves participated in events that highlighted these achievements. They emphasized the administration's dedication to fostering a skilled and diverse workforce for future generations of Latinos.

To commence Hispanic Heritage Month, Secretary Raimondo collaborated with Dr. Antonio Flores, CEO of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU). This agreement aims to enhance opportunities for Latino students, particularly within the semiconductor industry. As part of the CHIPS and Science Act's implementation, Secretary Raimondo has urged educational institutions to increase graduates in semiconductor-related fields such as engineering and technology. The MOU outlines strategies to promote educational equity and economic opportunity for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and the broader Hispanic/Latino community.

"Hispanic-Serving Institutions play an important role in building a skilled and diverse semiconductor workforce," said Secretary Raimondo. "With this MOU, we’re working towards building the talent we need while also bridging gaps in access and opportunity for Hispanic students."

Deputy Secretary Don Graves addressed issues of equity and diversity during the Commerce Department’s Second Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Reception. He focused on three Commerce programs providing financial support to often overlooked communities, including Hispanics.

"The Biden-Harris Administration has been historic and productive for the American people," stated Deputy Secretary Graves. "We’re making major investments in infrastructure, boosting domestic manufacturing, and ensuring everyone can share in our Nation’s prosperity."

The Biden Administration alongside the Commerce Department remains committed to promoting equality, diversity, and creating an inclusive economy that benefits all Americans.
