The U.S. Department of Labor has announced a $5 million grant awarded to the International Labour Organization. The funds are intended to tackle issues related to child and forced labor, as well as improve working conditions in certain supply chains in Brazil, other Latin American countries, and the Caribbean.
This initiative is being managed by the Bureau of International Labor Affairs. The project aims to engage government bodies, employers, and workers' organizations in addressing labor rights challenges through negotiated sector-specific agreements. It seeks to enhance collaboration among pact members, build their capacity, and strengthen engagement with local community organizations and other labor stakeholders. A primary goal is to amplify worker voices within select supply chains.
The project forms a crucial part of the department’s efforts under the Partnership for Workers’ Rights. This global initiative was launched jointly by the U.S. and Brazilian governments in 2023.
