U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg | U.S. Department of Justice
U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell has sentenced Daniel Carson Miller, a 30-year-old resident of Labelle, Florida, to 30 years in federal prison. The charges against Miller include enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, receipt of child sexual abuse material, possessing and accessing with intent to view images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children, and transferring obscene matter to a minor. Additionally, Miller faces a lifetime of supervised release and is required to register as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty on August 20, 2024.
Court documents revealed that between June and December 19, 2023, Miller used social media to communicate with minors under the guise of being a teenager himself. In June 2023, law enforcement was alerted by a parent about Miller's interactions with their 13-year-old child. Posing as a 16-year-old, he solicited sexually explicit images from the minor.
In November 2023, following an investigation by the FBI which included executing a search warrant for his social media account, numerous conversations were uncovered where Miller requested explicit images from minors and sent them photos of his genitals.
Further investigation in December led agents to search Miller’s residence where he confessed to requesting child sexual abuse material from around 100 minors and sending inappropriate images to approximately 200 minors. He admitted using threats of self-harm as coercion for obtaining these materials. A forensic examination found evidence on his electronic devices confirming possession of such illegal content.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Fort Myers Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Yolande G. Viacava.
This prosecution forms part of Project Safe Childhood—an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation nationwide through coordinated efforts among various law enforcement agencies.
