Felon pleads guilty to firearm possession; faces up to 15 years

Jacksonville, Florida – Loranzia Outin, III has pleaded guilty to possessing two firearms as a convicted felon. United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced the plea and stated that Outin, 48, from Middleburg, faces up to 15 years in federal prison. A sentencing date is yet to be determined.

Court documents reveal that on March 22, 2024, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Outin’s residence with their SWAT team. Officers found a 9mm pistol and a .22 caliber revolver in his room. Outin has ten prior felony convictions for offenses including selling methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon. Federal law prohibits felons from possessing firearms.

The investigation was conducted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta is prosecuting the case.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, emphasizing trust-building in communities, support for community organizations preventing violence, strategic enforcement priorities, and result measurement.
