A Hyannis resident, Timothy Lee Galvin, has entered a guilty plea in federal court in Boston for charges related to firearm possession and intent to distribute fentanyl. The plea was submitted before U.S. District Court Judge Angel Kelley, who has set the sentencing date for April 3, 2025. Galvin faced indictment in August 2023.
The arrest occurred on June 2, 2023, in Barnstable when authorities found Galvin with approximately six grams of fentanyl and three rounds of 9mm ammunition. A search revealed a backpack containing a privately made .45 caliber pistol along with 11 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition and 47 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The charge for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine that could reach $1 million. Meanwhile, the firearm possession charge linked to drug trafficking mandates a minimum five-year sentence and could extend to life imprisonment, accompanied by up to five years of supervised release and fines up to $250,000. Sentencing will adhere to the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy announced the development alongside James M. Ferguson from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives' Boston Field Division and Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Tolkoff is leading the prosecution under the Organized Crime & Gang Unit.
