Newton man receives sentence for child pornography charges

A Newton man has been sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for receiving child sexual abuse material. The sentencing took place on January 15, 2025.

Court documents reveal that Charles Gordon Feagins, aged 24, was involved in purchasing and receiving images and videos containing child sexual abuse material between October 2022 and January 2024. A search of his residence in Newton led law enforcement to seize electronic devices with over 500 such images and videos.

Upon completing his prison term, Feagins will serve a fifteen-year supervised release period. He is also required to pay $45,000 in restitution and register as a sex offender. The federal system does not allow parole.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal from the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The Federal Bureau of Investigation-Child Exploitation Task Force conducted the investigation.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project involves U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section working together with federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders who exploit children online and rescue victims.
