The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) New England Office has awarded two 2024 Regional Wastewater Treatment Awards to a Vermont wastewater facility and an individual, acknowledging their dedication to enhancing water quality.
For four decades, the EPA Regional Wastewater Awards Program has honored those in the wastewater sector who provide essential public service by managing and operating treatment facilities throughout New England.
Tristan MacGregor-Stewart of the Plainfield WWTF received the 2024 EPA Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator of the Year Award. As Chief Operator, MacGregor-Stewart was recognized for his exemplary work in operating and maintaining the facility. He was one of five individuals across New England to receive this accolade. The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation played a key role in his nomination.
The award aims to honor employees at publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their commitment to improving water quality through excellent plant operations and maintenance. Operators and staff work diligently to protect public health and the environment, often with limited resources.
Additionally, the Village of Orleans Wastewater Treatment Facility was granted the 2024 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award. Under the leadership of Orleans Village Manager John Morely, the facility was acknowledged for its outstanding performance over the past year. It was one of three facilities across New England to be honored with this award. The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation also contributed significantly to this nomination.
This award recognizes employees at publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their dedication to improving water quality through exceptional plant operations and maintenance, especially in smaller facilities where resources are limited.
