Detroit man pleads guilty to federal drug charges involving fentanyl

Allen Lation Baird, a 48-year-old resident of Detroit, Michigan, has entered a guilty plea for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine. The case was heard in Huntington, West Virginia.

The arrest occurred on May 3, 2023, when law enforcement officers detained Baird under an arrest warrant from Michigan. During the arrest, officers discovered approximately 56 grams of a substance containing fentanyl and 14 grams of methamphetamine on Baird. He admitted to officers that he intended to deliver these substances to another individual.

Baird's sentencing is set for June 5, 2025. He could face up to 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000.

United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the plea and acknowledged the efforts of the Huntington Police Department and the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force in their investigation.

The hearing was overseen by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers. Assistant United States Attorney Courtney L. Finney is handling the prosecution.

This case is part of Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge (SOS), an initiative aimed at curbing the distribution of synthetic opioids in regions heavily impacted by drug-related activities.
