House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and Congressman Barry Loudermilk have requested documents and transcribed interviews from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' office. The request is part of an ongoing investigation into the coordination between the DA's office and the January 6 Select Committee regarding what they describe as a political prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
The Committee had previously sought information from DA Willis about her interactions with the January 6 Select Committee but faced non-cooperation. "On December 17, 2021, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis wrote to Representative Bennie Thompson...for access to records that may be relevant," states an excerpt from a letter sent to Deputy District Attorney Will Wooten. The letter details that Willis was keen on acquiring various records related to witness interviews, communications, and travel documentation.
According to testimony by Dexter Bond, an Assistant District Attorney at FCDAO, several employees traveled to Washington, D.C., using county funds for meetings with the January 6 Select Committee members. Despite prior requests for cooperation, DA Willis has not fully complied with the inquiry. In a letter dated December 12, 2024, she acknowledged having materials relevant to the investigation but withheld them citing attorney-client privilege among other protections.
The letters were also addressed to Michael Hill, Trina Swanson-Lucas, Donald Wakeford, and Will Wooten.
