A Billings man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing and trading child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Nathan Allen Sayler, 48, will also face 15 years of supervised release following his prison term and is required to pay $22,000 in special assessments.
Sayler pleaded guilty in April 2024 to charges of possession of child pornography. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters.
The case against Sayler began when law enforcement in Texas arrested an individual involved in exchanging child pornography on social media with a contact in Montana. An investigation revealed that the contact was Sayler, who was already a convicted sex offender. A probation search of his home followed, during which he denied using a cell phone linked to the illegal activities—a device that authorities never recovered. However, Sayler later admitted to another witness that he had possessed the phone and disposed of it after the search.
In January 2024, further investigations led agents to execute a search warrant on Sayler’s Gmail accounts where they found images of child pornography.
The prosecution was carried out by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducting the investigation.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at addressing child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project coordinates federal, state, and local resources for apprehending offenders and rescuing victims from such crimes.
