U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken Sostenes Perez-Lopez, a 59-year-old Guatemalan national, into custody in Brighton, Massachusetts. Perez-Lopez faces charges of two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
"Sostenes Perez-Lopez stands accused of some horrific crimes against a child in Massachusetts," stated Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. "We will not tolerate the victimization of our residents at the hands of alien offenders. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize the safety of our public by arresting and removing illegally present lawbreakers."
Perez-Lopez entered the United States without inspection by immigration officials at an unspecified time and location. An immigration detainer was lodged against him by ICE with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department at Nashua Street Jail on November 28, 2024, following his apprehension.
The Boston Municipal Court arraigned Perez-Lopez on November 29, 2024, setting bail at $8,000 after charging him with two counts related to offenses against a minor. Despite an ICE detainer request, he was released on bail December 12, 2024. The court required him to wear GPS monitoring pending case resolution.
Following his arrest by ICE, Perez-Lopez received a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge and remains in custody.
