National Farmers Union (NFU) and Coldiretti have issued a joint declaration urging U.S. President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to address the ongoing trade dispute between the United States and the European Union.
NFU President Rob Larew expressed concerns over the impact of tariffs, stating, “Farmers on both sides of the Atlantic are feeling the stress and uncertainty from the threat of tariffs.” He highlighted that trade tensions could lead to increased costs, disrupted supply chains, and restricted markets affecting farmers, consumers, and businesses.
Larew called for immediate negotiations to prevent further economic challenges for American and European farmers. “Farmers across the globe depend on a strong transatlantic partnership between the United States and the European Union,” he added.
Ettore Prandini, President of Coldiretti, echoed these sentiments by stressing that "the trade war puts agricultural producers at risk and must be stopped before it causes further damage." He emphasized shared concerns with American counterparts regarding negative effects of escalating tensions.
Coldiretti is recognized as a leading organization representing agricultural entrepreneurs in Italy and Europe. NFU stands as the second largest general farm organization in the U.S., advocating for family farmers and ranchers nationwide.
