A federal grand jury in Huntsville has issued charges against eight individuals for immigration-related offenses, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona.
The defendants, charged with illegally re-entering the United States after having been deported, include:
- Gilmar Araldo Elias, 45, from Guatemala
- Faustino Discua-Reyes, 38, from Honduras
- Roger Manuel Jarquin, 28, from Nicaragua
- Rigoberto Miranda-Gutierrez, 43, from Mexico
- Miguel Perdomo Sanchez, 27, from Mexico
- Luis Miguel Olivera Hernandez, 36, from Mexico
- Milton Obdulio Ramirez, 31, from Honduras
- Angel Techomahua-Amador, 36, from Mexico
The individuals were also charged with being aliens in possession of firearms.
These charges are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice. The operation focuses on combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. It aims to protect communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. The operation brings together resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and the Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
The investigation was a joint effort by Homeland Security Investigations – Atlanta and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Nashville Field Division.
It is important to note that an indictment contains only charges and that a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
