Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau recently engaged in a meeting with a Japanese delegation. The group was led by Representative Furuya Keiji, head of the Parliamentary Association on Abduction Issues, and included family members of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korea.
During the meeting, Deputy Secretary Landau reiterated the United States' support for Japan in its efforts to resolve the abductions issue promptly. He extended his condolences for the passing of Arimoto Akihiro, who did not have the chance to reunite with his abducted daughter Keiko before he died on February 15.
Furthermore, Deputy Secretary Landau expressed gratitude to the delegation, particularly the family members of abductees, for their persistent advocacy and for sharing their personal stories.
"Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met a visiting Japanese delegation led by the Head of the Parliamentary Association on Abduction Issues Representative Furuya Keiji and family members of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korea," said Spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
"He reaffirmed U.S. support for Japan in achieving an immediate resolution of the abductions issue," Bruce confirmed.
"He expressed his condolences for Arimoto Akihiro, who was unable to reunite with his daughter Keiko before he passed away February 15."
"The Deputy Secretary also thanked the visiting delegation, particularly family members of the abductees, for their continued advocacy."
