Dominican national charged with transporting child pornography at Boston airport

A Dominican national has been arrested in Boston and charged with the transportation of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Jorge Junior Alvarez Rodriguez, 21, faces one count of transporting child pornography. He is set to make his initial appearance in federal court in Boston.

The charging documents state that on May 3, 2025, Alvarez was flagged for secondary screening upon arriving at Boston’s Logan Airport from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. During a review of his cell phone, files depicting CSAM were allegedly discovered. Authorities claim these files include images of children as young as four to seven years old.

If convicted, the charge carries a sentence ranging from five to 20 years in prison, at least five years to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine up to $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England announced the arrest. The investigation received assistance from Customs and Border Patrol's Boston Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Maynard is prosecuting the case.

This arrest is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project aims to marshal resources across federal, state, and local levels to apprehend offenders and rescue victims.

The allegations outlined are accusations only; Alvarez is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
