Senator Cassidy supports HHS guidance against child gender transition procedures

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy has expressed support for new guidance from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) aimed at curbing gender transition procedures for children. This guidance advises healthcare providers to halt these practices, diverging from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health's (WPATH) recommendations.

"As a doctor, I am extremely concerned that medical organizations continue to push irreversible gender transition procedures for children against scientific data," stated Dr. Cassidy. "I applaud President Trump’s strong leadership in telling providers directly that these dangerous practices must end."

Senator Cassidy, who chairs the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, emphasized his commitment to collaborating with President Trump on this issue. He remarked on his ongoing efforts within the Senate to protect children from what he views as harmful procedures.

Last month, Cassidy urged WPATH to align with an executive order by President Trump designed to prevent chemical and surgical interventions in children without sufficient scientific backing. Additionally, he initiated an investigation into WPATH and other medical entities last fall regarding their promotion of such procedures.
