U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Champlain border crossing have arrested Gurdev Singh, a 42-year-old Indian citizen, who was wanted in Indiana on charges of child solicitation for sexual intercourse. Singh was encountered by CBP officers on May 28 after being denied entry into Canada.

During the primary inspection, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) flagged an active felony arrest warrant for Singh from Indiana. The warrant pertained to charges of child solicitation and solicitation for sexual intercourse, classified as a level 4 felony.

CBP officers took Singh into custody and moved him to a secondary examination area for further investigation. Officers confirmed his identity and verified the arrest warrant issued by the Plainfield Police Department. A search of Singh's belongings revealed several bladed weapons, including a sword and a hatchet. Further investigation determined that Singh had overstayed his visitor’s visa since 2016, making him an illegal alien.

Champlain Port Director Steve Bronson stated, “I am so proud of our enforcement-focused CBP officers who identified and arrested a known child predator.” He added that leveraging national law enforcement resources alongside officer expertise led to the fugitive's apprehension.

Singh has been processed by CBP officers and handed over to the New York State Police as a fugitive from justice. He is currently held by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition.

It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
