Today, President Trump expressed his approval of a spectrum deal negotiated by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. The agreement was part of the budget reconciliation text and involved collaboration with Senator Roger Wicker, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, and Senator Tom Cotton, Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
The spectrum provision from the Commerce Committee is expected to create a significant pipeline by raising an estimated $85 billion for taxpayers. This move aims to integrate unused and underused spectrum into the private sector, promoting investment and job creation. The initiative is anticipated to result in cheaper and faster internet access for consumers while supporting new AI-enabled technologies that enhance productivity growth.
President Trump commented on Truth Social:
“Congratulations to Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Ted Cruz, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Roger Wicker, and Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, Tom Cotton, for their amazing deal on Spectrum as posted last night. This is serious power for American Leadership on 6G. We will have the World’s Greatest Networks, and ensure the Highest Level of National Security for future Generations of Americans. Biden did nothing on Spectrum in four years but thanks to “THE GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL,” my Administration will beat all expectations and show the World the path forward!”
The deal emphasizes enhancing American leadership in wireless technologies through strategic use of spectrum resources.
