Trinitarios gang leader sentenced for triple shooting incident

Pedro Serrano, the leader of the Ozone Park set of the Trinitarios street gang, was sentenced to over 15 years in prison for a shooting incident that injured three individuals. The sentencing took place in federal court in Brooklyn, where United States District Judge Eric N. Vitaliano delivered a 183-month sentence for Serrano's involvement in the June 29, 2021 shooting. The attack was part of an ongoing conspiracy against rival gang members.

Serrano had pleaded guilty in March 2024 to charges of assault in-aid-of racketeering and discharging a firearm during a violent crime. United States Attorney Joseph Nocella, Jr., alongside FBI Assistant Director Christopher G. Raia, announced the sentencing outcome.

"Serrano was ruthlessly committed to a dangerous criminal enterprise, and he and his co-conspirators shot multiple victims in furtherance of a senseless gang rivalry to advance his enterprise," stated Attorney Nocella. He emphasized the threat such violence poses to public safety and reiterated his office's commitment to eradicating violent gangs from communities.

Raia added that Serrano's actions were reckless and perpetuated a long-standing territorial feud among gangs. "His actions not only jeopardized the safety of a residential community but also perpetuated the gang’s years-long territorial feud," Raia stated.

The New York City Police Department contributed significantly to the investigation leading up to this case. According to court documents, Serrano orchestrated several violent confrontations with rival gang sets within Queens and Brooklyn since at least 2021. The conflict between different Trinitarios factions led to retaliatory shootings, including one on June 29, where Serrano targeted Southside members while driving through Queens.

Albert Santana-Fernandez, another OZP member involved in the shooting, has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing. The prosecution is managed by Assistant United States Attorneys Lindsey R. Oken and Benjamin Weintraub from the Organized Crime and Gangs Section.

Pedro Serrano is identified as "Papo," aged 24 from Brooklyn, NY, while Albert Santana-Fernandez is known as "Pipa," aged 27 from Philadelphia, PA.

The case is filed under E.D.N.Y Docket No. 23-CR-28 (ENV).
