Parkersburg man pleads guilty to federal drug crime

Aaron Lee Mitter, a 39-year-old resident of Parkersburg, has pleaded guilty to distributing methamphetamine. According to court documents and statements made in court, on July 11, 2024, Mitter sold approximately 24.52 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant for $280. As part of his plea agreement, Mitter admitted to this transaction.

Mitter also confessed to selling an unregistered privately made firearm known as a "ghost gun" and a magazine capable of holding 45 rounds of ammunition for $400 on the same day.

On July 17, 2024, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at an apartment in Parkersburg where Mitter was staying. During the search, officers seized about 45.67 grams of methamphetamine. Mitter admitted he intended to use some of the methamphetamine and distribute the rest.

Mitter is scheduled for sentencing on September 22, 2025. He faces up to 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the plea and praised the investigative efforts by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Wood County Sheriff's Office, and Parkersburg Police Department.

The hearing was presided over by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin with Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum prosecuting the case.
