A Brazilian citizen, Paulo Henrique Fernandes Evaristo, has been sentenced in federal court for illegal reentry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced that on July 10, 2025, Fernandes Evaristo was sentenced to time served and one year of supervised release by Senior United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti.
Fernandes Evaristo had previously been removed from the United States on October 7, 2021. He was discovered in Glassport, Pennsylvania, on March 5, 2025, after reentering the country without permission from the Secretary of Homeland Security.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch. Acting U.S. Attorney Rivetti praised the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations for their role in the investigation that led to Fernandes Evaristo's prosecution.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a national initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, combating illegal immigration, and protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.
