Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito led a hearing on the nominations of Katherine Scarlett and Jeffrey Hall for key environmental roles. The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, chaired by Capito, convened to consider Scarlett's nomination as a Member of the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and Hall's nomination as an Assistant Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
During her opening statement, Capito highlighted Scarlett's qualifications: “Katherine is very well-qualified to lead CEQ." She noted Scarlett's role in modernizing environmental review processes and her past contributions to bipartisan legislative efforts.
The hearing also addressed Jeffrey Hall’s nomination to lead the EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance. Capito emphasized Hall’s expertise: "Mr. Hall’s professional experience gives him the expertise to effectively lead this office."
Capito expressed hope for future bipartisan legislation reforming environmental review processes, stating, "I am hopeful that we can get a bill to the President’s desk for his signature."
