The White House has established a new task force to coordinate federal efforts in preparation for the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will be hosted by the United States. The executive order, signed by President Donald J. Trump on August 5, 2025, outlines the structure and objectives of the White House Task Force on the 2028 Summer Olympics.

The Federal Government will lead a unified effort to ensure maximum safety, secure borders, and world-class transportation for millions of visitors throughout the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games (Games)."

The Task Force will be chaired by the President with the Vice President serving as Vice Chair. An Executive Director will manage day-to-day operations under direction from senior White House officials. Regular meetings will be held to set agendas and direct work related to Olympic preparations.

Membership includes Cabinet secretaries such as those leading State, Treasury, Defense, Commerce, Transportation, Homeland Security; high-ranking White House advisors; heads of agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Federal Communications Commission; as well as other designated or invited department leaders.

The Department of Homeland Security is tasked with providing funding and administrative support for this initiative. Agency heads are required to submit reports detailing their respective planning activities concerning the Games by October 1, 2025.

"The Task Force shall coordinate with executive departments and agencies (agencies) to assist in the planning, organization, and execution of the events surrounding the Games. Agencies shall provide information and assistance useful and necessary to the Task Force," states section two of the order.

The group’s functions include coordinating federal planning around security measures at Olympic venues and transportation hubs; supporting cooperation between federal agencies as well as state and local partners; identifying barriers that could affect effective federal support; assisting with visa processing for foreign athletes and media; ensuring readiness across law enforcement and emergency response sectors.

Section four clarifies that "Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect: (i)   the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or (ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals."

Costs associated with publication are assigned to Homeland Security. Unless extended by presidential action, this task force is scheduled for termination on December 31, 2028.
