A Browning resident, Treyson Lee Sharp, 21, was arraigned in federal court in Great Falls on charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of an unregistered firearm. U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced the arraignment.
Sharp entered a not guilty plea to both charges. The maximum sentence for involuntary manslaughter is eight years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. For possession of an unlawful firearm, the penalties include up to ten years in prison, a $10,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John T. Johnston presided over the hearing and ordered Sharp released pending further proceedings.
According to the indictment, on December 28, 2024, near Browning, Sharp allegedly killed Jane Doe by discharging a loaded firearm while pointing it at her during a lawful act that could cause death. The second count states that he knowingly possessed a shotgun with an overall length of less than 26 inches and a barrel shorter than 18 inches that was not registered as required by law.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kalah Paisley is prosecuting the case. The investigation involved several agencies: the FBI, ATF, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, Glacier County Sheriff’s Office, and Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.
"This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)."
The indictment is an accusation; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
