The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee will hold a hearing next week focused on increasing transparency at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to an announcement from committee chair Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA). The hearing aims to address President Trump’s directive to restore what he calls “radical transparency” at the CDC, with particular attention to protecting children’s health.
Former CDC officials Susan Monarez, PhD, and Debra Houry, M.D., are scheduled to testify about recent high-profile departures from the agency. The committee also plans to invite current Department of Health and Human Services officials for a future session.
“Children’s health must be the top priority. I thank President Trump and Secretary Kennedy for making radical transparency a priority,” said Dr. Cassidy. “To protect children’s health, Americans need to know what has happened and is happening at the CDC. They need to be reassured that their child’s health is given priority. Radical transparency is the only way to do that.”
The hearing is titled “Restoring Trust Through Radical Transparency: Reviewing Recent Events at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Implications for Children’s Health.” It will take place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM ET in room 430 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
Seating in the hearing room will be limited. Members of the press who wish to attend are encouraged to RSVP through their respective press galleries as soon as possible.
