Chairman Rick Scott and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging are set to hold a hearing on October 8 titled “Bad Medicine: Closing Loopholes that Kill American Patients.” The session will address America’s reliance on foreign-manufactured generic drugs and explore measures to improve the safety and availability of medications, especially for older Americans.
The committee will examine legislative and regulatory actions to strengthen the domestic drug supply chain. Lawmakers will hear from expert witnesses who will discuss recommendations for bringing pharmaceutical manufacturing back to the United States, increasing transparency in the supply chain, implementing country of origin labeling, and closing loopholes such as the Acetris loophole that could impact drug safety and accessibility.
Testifying at the hearing will be Tony Sardella, Founder & Chair of API Innovation Center and Distinguished Fellow for Health Innovation at Washington University in St. Louis Olin Business School; Tony Paquin, President & Chief Executive Officer of iRemedy Healthcare, Inc.; Andrew Rechenberg, Economist at Coalition for a Prosperous America; and Marta Wosinska, Ph.D., Senior Fellow – Economic Studies at the Center on Health Policy, Brookings Institution.
The hearing is scheduled for 3:15 PM at Hart Senate Office Building, SH-216. A live broadcast will be available online.
