Jefferson County man sentenced to over ten years for drug and gun offenses

A Jefferson County resident has received a prison sentence exceeding ten years following convictions on drug and firearm offenses, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

Wayne Carnell Brown, 74, of Birmingham, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Annemarie Axon to 130 months in federal prison. Brown had previously pleaded guilty in February to charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Court documents indicate that the charges stem from a search conducted on July 1, 2024. The Birmingham Police Department Narcotics Unit executed a warrant at Brown’s residence, where detectives found multiple firearms, large amounts of cash, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, and digital scales.

The investigation involved the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Birmingham Police Department, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allison Garnett handled the prosecution.
