The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) and Accuris have announced the release of NAS410 Revision 6, an updated standard for nondestructive testing (NDT) in the aerospace industry. The revision aims to improve inspection reliability, support safer aircraft operations, and create new career opportunities for aerospace professionals.
Chris Carnahan, AIA Assistant Vice President of Standards, said, “NAS410 Revision 6 marks a significant advancement in aligning safety, innovation, and workforce readiness. This update not only strengthens and clarifies nondestructive testing certification requirements, but also supports the development of a more resilient and skilled aerospace workforce by introducing a new pathway to Level 3 qualification through the competency-based credit system outlined in Appendix D.”
Martin Collinson, Chief Partnership Officer at Accuris, added: “Accuris is pleased to support AIA, and, as the sole source for AIA subscription content delivery, we are committed to ensuring their vital standards, including NAS410, are easily accessible across the aerospace industry. The jointly released NAS410 Revision 6 is a testament to industry collaboration, and Accuris’ role ensures this vital update is widely available to support the continued integrity and reliability of aerospace NDT operations.”
NAS410 serves as a key standard used throughout the aerospace sector for qualifying and certifying personnel who perform nondestructive testing—a process essential for detecting flaws in aircraft components without causing damage. The latest revision incorporates current industry practices and technological developments while addressing workforce needs.
One notable change in NAS410 Revision 6 is the introduction of Appendix D. This addition provides an alternative route for Level 2 personnel seeking Level 3 qualification by allowing them to accumulate points through specific NDT activities. Upon reaching required point thresholds across different categories of NDT activities, individuals become eligible to take their initial Level 3 examination.
AIA maintains more than 1,100 active standards within its National Aerospace Standards (NAS) library. Experts from member companies contribute to committees responsible for developing these standards.
AIA and Accuris will host a webinar on December 2 at 1:00 PM ET that will discuss the development process behind NAS410 Revision 6 and provide a detailed review of its changes. The webinar can be watched live or viewed later as a recording.
