Arizona man receives eight-year sentence for assaulting infant

An Arizona man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for assaulting a one-month-old child. Logan Nelson, 22, a member of the Navajo Nation, admitted to assaulting the infant multiple times in October 2022. The final incident on October 15, 2022, resulted in the baby suffering a fracture of the left arm and several fractures in the legs and ribs.

Nelson pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. After completing his prison sentence, he will serve three years of supervised release. Federal sentences do not include parole.

The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany DuChaussee is prosecuting the case.

Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced the sentencing.
