U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, who serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has commented on a recent report concerning Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel’s leadership. The report, which is 115 pages long and was put together by a national alliance of retired and active-duty FBI special agents and analysts, describes the FBI under Patel’s direction as a “rudderless ship.” The assessment highlights an incident in which Patel reportedly halted the work of several agents because he refused to leave the FBI jet without wearing a raid jacket after arriving in Provo, Utah, following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
In his statement, Durbin said: “This stark assessment of the damage Kash Patel has done to the nation’s leading law enforcement agency cries out for one—just one—Republican Senator to break the ranks of silence and demand that Kash Patel be held accountable for his mismanagement of the FBI. America deserves better than this self-absorbed FBI Director fussing over his wardrobe in the midst of a national crisis.
“The men and women of the FBI who risk their lives to keep America safe are entitled to a leader who is more concerned with fighting crime than attending a wrestling match.”
