Senator Rick Scott, chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, convened a hearing titled “Aging with Purpose: The Positive Impact of Older Americans on Today’s Economy.” The session focused on how older adults continue to strengthen the U.S. economy through employment, caregiving, volunteer service, lifelong learning, and other meaningful activities as they transition into retirement and new life chapters.

Expert witnesses invited by Chairman Scott included Jon Taffer, president and CEO of Taffer Dynamics and executive producer and host of “Bar Rescue” on Paramount Network; Dr. Paul Broadie II, president of Santa Fe College in Florida; and Rachel Greszler, senior research fellow for workforce and public finance at The Heritage Foundation. Their testimonies highlighted the significant yet often undervalued contributions that older individuals provide to the nation’s workforce even after retirement.

Chairman Scott’s experts discussed how seniors enrich both local communities and the broader economy. They also examined strategies to better support and utilize the extensive skills, knowledge, and experience that older Americans offer.

“The hearing showcased many ways in which seniors continue to add value across various sectors,” said Chairman Scott. “Their ongoing participation in work, caregiving, volunteering, education, and more is vital as they enter retirement or pursue new purposeful endeavors.”

The full remarks from Chairman Scott are available online.
