U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) has welcomed the Senate's confirmation of several nominees to key roles in federal agricultural and regulatory agencies. The confirmed nominees include Michael Selig as Chairman and Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Dr. Mindy Brashears as Under Secretary of Food Safety at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Stella Yvette Herrell as Assistant Secretary of Agriculture for Congressional Affairs and External Relations, and John Walk as Inspector General.
Boozman issued statements regarding these confirmations. On Michael Selig’s appointment to the CFTC, Boozman said: “I look forward to working with Chairman Selig to ensure the CFTC offers clear and pragmatic regulation of risk management markets, and particularly as Congress considers legislation to expand its authority related to digital commodities. Selig’s leadership will be invaluable as the agency enters this new era and takes on greater responsibilities.”
Regarding the USDA confirmations, Boozman stated: “The Senate confirmed a historic number of administration officials this year including 12 leaders to key USDA roles. We are eager to work together in support of farmers and a stronger rural America.”
These appointments come amid ongoing legislative efforts concerning market regulation and food safety oversight.
