Trump administration announces $10 billion arms sale to Taiwan

The Trump administration has announced plans to sell over $10 billion in arms to Taiwan, marking the largest American arms sale to the island. Media reports indicate that the deal includes 82 high-mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS), 420 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), 60 self-propelled howitzer systems, Javelin missiles, and other related military equipment.

“This sale is an outstanding move by the Trump administration to strengthen the partnership between the United States and Taiwan and deter a CCP invasion of the island. The people of Taiwan are constantly harassed by the Chinese Communist Party and Xi Jinping has ordered his military to be ready to take the island in 2027. Taiwan is investing in its own defense, and I hope these urgently needed items are swiftly delivered in order to strengthen deterrence,” said Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar.

In November, Taiwan announced a plan to invest $40 billion in building an air defense system and implementing other security initiatives.
