Farrell man sentenced to decade in federal prison for drugs and firearms offenses

A Farrell, Pennsylvania resident has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearm offenses, according to an announcement from First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

Daniel George, 37, received the sentence from United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak. The charges stemmed from two crimes committed on July 7, 2022: possession with intent to distribute at least 28 grams of cocaine base, as well as fentanyl and cocaine; and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. In addition to the prison term, Judge Hornak ordered five years of supervised release after George completes his sentence.

Court documents showed that George engaged in armed fentanyl and cocaine trafficking in Farrell, Mercer County during 2022. He continued these activities despite previous convictions and periods of incarceration for drug trafficking, firearm violations, and domestic violence offenses. Authorities noted that he operated from a location where his girlfriend and an infant child were present.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Mercer County Drug Task Force, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). The prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which coordinates law enforcement efforts with community organizations to reduce violent crime and gun violence. In May 2021, the Department implemented a new strategy for PSN focusing on building trust within communities, supporting prevention efforts by local organizations, prioritizing targeted enforcement actions, and evaluating program outcomes.
