U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, who serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced his support for five bipartisan government funding bills. Durbin also voted in favor of a two-week stopgap funding measure for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as discussions continue on reforms to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In his statement, Durbin said, “Senate Democrats were successful in separating and passing the five bipartisan government funding bills from the DHS bill. Now I am willing to give the White House and Republicans two weeks to work with Democrats to reform ICE and the campaign of terror we’ve witnessed in Chicago, Minneapolis, and across the country. After two weeks, I make no promises.”

The temporary DHS funding extension allows lawmakers additional time to negotiate changes to ICE operations.
