The House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, chaired by Representative Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), has scheduled a hearing titled “Doing More with Less: Deleting Duplicative Programs.” The session will focus on identifying and analyzing duplication and overlap among federal programs, particularly those related to welfare.
According to the subcommittee, the hearing aims to address the costs and complexity associated with overlapping government initiatives. The discussion will also cover how these duplications can lead to waste, fraud, and abuse. Lawmakers are expected to consider how structural changes such as consolidating or eliminating certain programs could reduce inefficiencies and save taxpayer money.
Chairman Burchett stated, “Billions of Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars are being wasted on expensive and redundant government programs. Eliminating waste will free up money to fund vital programs that benefit the least amongst us. America is approaching 40 trillion dollars in debt, and Congress needs to act on this waste before it is too late. I look forward to hearing from witnesses on how to cut costs, reduce Americans’ dependency on welfare systems, and increase efficiency in the federal government.”
The hearing is set for Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. EST in HVC-210 at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center. Witnesses scheduled include Orice Williams Brown, Acting Comptroller of the U.S. Government Accountability Office; Paul Winfree, President and CEO of the Economic Policy Innovation Center; and Matt Weidinger, Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
The event is open to the public and will be livestreamed online.
